Podcasts to treat your Olympic fever

Everything you need to get you in the mood for Paris 2024

If you’re not listening to podcasts this week, you’re probably watching the television.

The Olympics kicked off in Paris over the weekend, with the television coverage split between the BBC and Discovery. There are a number of new podcasts, including Tom Dean Medal Machine, where the freestyle swimmer and double gold medallist takes you into his preparation as he attempts an unprecedented five-medal haul.

All About… Olympics by BBC Radio 5 Live consists of celebrated British Olympians talking about their careers (guests so far including Tom Daley, Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame Sarah Storey) whilst On The Podium features profiles of Olympians and Paralympians from across the world through history.

Meanwhile Tortoise’s The Slow Newscast looks at the life of one of the world’s most celebrated Olympians: Simone Biles. With 37 Olympic and World Championship medals already under her belt (wow, heavy), the Tortoise team speaks to gymnasts, those close to her and experts about her achievements and what makes her tick.

The Sports Agents with Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman looks at challenges facing the Olympic movement, such as its relevance with young people and falling live television audiences. Gabby and Mark have also been nominated for a British Podcast Awards in the brand new Best Hosts category. Find out who else has been nominated on Podcast Rex.
