More than 350,000 people in the UK today are affected by aphasia, a neurological language disorder that causes difficulty in someone’s writing, reading or speaking ability. It can be caused by a stroke, head injury or neurological illness and the effects of it can be life-long. Filmmaker Jonathan Hirons, who was diagnosed with aphasia in 2019, has a podcast with his friend Rob Edwards that explores the issue, featuring well-crafted interviews with people connected by the issue.
A recent episode looks at how artificial technology can be beneficial for people with aphasia, such as simplifying emails that are difficult to read, or polishing messages if that are hard to write.
