Extraordinary Stories of Britain

Nominated for Best History Podcast at the Independent Podcast Awards last year, this history podcast put together by Blue Badge history guides and voice actors highlights interesting stories from Britain's past: from the life of Charles Dickens to the story of Britain’s sewage.

There’s also a story about how cat owners managed to navigate World War II. Pets were not allowed in air raid shelters and were recommended by the government to either be relocated to the friends in the countryside or destroyed, which resulted in the deaths of many animals. Some owners were obviously reluctant to let go of their household pets, not only because of their company, but also because they were valued as early warning systems as they had a knack in detecting when something was wrong.
