An interesting new series looking at the notable mistresses throughout history, from Wu Zhao who became the first female Emperor of China to Madame de Montespan, who was referred to as "true Queen of France" due to her influence as mistress of King Louis XIV. It’s brought to you by Dr Kate Lister, who retells the women’s stories and places them within context, alongside the broadcaster Jameela Jamil who reacts and asks questions.

“The stories of women, especially mistresses, are so difficult to find in history,” explains Kate Lister. “They were forgotten, they were overlooked, but they were there the whole time behind powerful men.”

The series is only available to Audible subscribers, but it doesn’t use up any of your existing credits.
