The History Podcast – Sixty Years of Hurt

As well as the TV adaptation of the James Graham play ‘Dear England’, there’s now this interesting BBC Sounds series looking at the complex topic of English national identity. 

Comedian and writer David Baddiel looks at how the England’s Men’s Team is a reflection of Englishness, more so than other institutions such as Parliament and the Royal Family (they reflect British identity). He also explores what it means when England loses in football most of the time. Is there something in English history about us being the eternal underdog?
