With the news that Oasis are reforming and that Noel and Liam Gallagher have apparently buried the hatchet, now is probably a good time as ever to listen to podcasts that have charted the band’s rocky relationship and influence over the years.
The Rise and Fall of Britpop, hosted by the BBC’s Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley, has a new eight part series on the history and impact of the band. It is full of archive interviews with Noel and Liam and news clips, along with anecdotes and memories shared by the show’s hosts, resulting in a delightful and nostalgic deep dive. You’ll hear their first ever appearance on Radio 1 and learn how they were signed to a record label after making only four songs.
The British Scandal team also tell the story of the band’s dramatic rise and fall with Alice Levine and Matt Forde’s trademark wry humour. It relies on the storytelling format that Wondery are known for rather than archive clips, but it is equally as compelling.
There’s also Listen Up - The Oasis Podcast. Released several years ago, it looks at events that led up to the release of their debut studio album ‘Definitely Maybe.’ Finally, The Oasis Podcast, an unofficial podcast looking into the history of the band, has three episodes this week reacting to the news of their new tour. Expect a lot of additional episodes between now and when (or if) it happens too.
