Happy Pride Month. Before we get on with our usual set of recommendations, let’s have a look at great podcasts that focus on the LGBTQ+ lives in the UK today.

QueerAF has a mission to amplify LGBTQIA+ stories that you may not have heard elsewhere. For their latest series, six up and coming trans+ audio producers were given the chance to make their own episode. There’s an interesting episode on the power of positive on-screen representation and a deep dive into the history of the first transgender conference that took place in Leeds 50 years ago.

The first series of Memories from the Dance Floor looked at the history of well known venues such as Heaven Nightclub in London and The Nightingale Club in Birmingham. The podcast has changed its focus for its second series, with it now looking at what it is like to grow up queer in Wales, and how the LGBTQ+ community supported the miners during the strikes in the 1980s. Elsewhere, the Lost Spaces podcast looks at how queer venues shape queer lives, and what could be lost if these venues close. And if you’re looking for some excellent podcasts looking at LGBTQ+ lives from recent years, look no further than The Log Books, which looks at queer history through the call logs of LGBTQ+ helpline Switchboard.

There’s also Black and Gay, Back in the Day, which looks at Black LGBTQIA+ lives in the UK over a three decade period. A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins to Today, which looks at how charity and the community have supported people affected by HIV and in A Gay and a NonGay, host James Barr talks about dealing with domestic violence.
