Tortoise, the owner of The Observer newspaper, already has a long-running investigative podcast strand and has created hit series such as Sweet Bobby and Elon’s Spies. Their latest series looks at Kathleen Folbigg, who was wrongly convicted of the murder of her four infant children in 2003.

Her name was not cleared by a detective re-examining the case but by the work of a lab scientist, whose groundbreaking work might overturn the conviction of other mothers who have been convicted under similar circumstances. 

“This isn't just a story about a single miscarriage of justice. It's also a story about how science can shape and reshape the law,” says the series presenter Rachel Sylvester.  “And about all the ways that our ideas of women, of mothers, of motherhood, shape the law too.” The first three episodes are available to listen to now, with the fourth episode available to Observer+ subscribers.
