Broadcaster Charlie Higson learnt a rhyme in school that helped him remember the names of the Kings and Queens of England. It only dawned on him later in adulthood that he had no idea of who these people actually were, hence this podcast where he asks historians about their lives.

The series debuted last year and has already covered all the Kings and Queens in his rhyme, providing quite the podcast back catalogue to get into. In his upcoming series he’s going back to explore the lives of royalty from before the rhyme even begins, starting with Alfred the Great. There were also daily episodes throughout August with little extras that couldn’t fit in the main series, such as the history of why Elephant & Castle is called the way it is.
