How did HS2, the first new major route north of London for more than 70 years, become such a financial headache? This new 10 part series looks at the reasons why the high speed railway’s budget has ballooned, the completion date has been knocked back and HS2 won’t ever reach its initial lofty expectations.

“To find out how we got here, I've spent months pouring through documents and debates, sitting down with politicians and protesters, insiders and engineers,” says the presenter and journalist Kate Lamble at the start of the series. “The answer, I've found, takes us to the heart of how things in Britain get done and why some of our biggest, most ambitious ideas crumble away.”

Episodes are only 15 minutes each, with the series available to listen on BBC Sounds.
