Political Currency

9:01 AM GMT+1 on September 10, 2023

Political Currency - Another week, another podcast launch hosted by a notable duo. Former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls have teamed up for a new weekly show that attempts to give us some insight into what might be happening behind the doors of Number 10. The ambition is to also give a sense of the logic and thinking behind different policy and strategy decisions, which are all the more important as we head towards an election year. The first episode taps into the woeful future of HS2 and the implications of the triple lock pension.

The reason why this podcast is piquing interest in media and political circles is not just because of who is in front of the microphone, but also the people putting it together. The series is the latest by Persephonica, who also makes The News Agents podcast with Emily Maitlis, Lewis Goodall and Jon Sopel and At Your Service, the pop culture series fronted by Dua Lipa. They have a knack at creating podcasts that get the nation talking. I guess the challenge with this series is that it is debuting in a rather saturated market.
