Media Confidential - Last week Rupert Murdoch announced that he was stepping down as chairman of his vast news and entertainment empire. Even though he is aged 92, and has been now given the role as Chairman Emeritus, the news created shockwaves throughout the industry as few believed that a man known for having such a hands-on involvement in his media titles would ever retire.
It was his decision, and his influence and legacy, which is explored in-depth in the first episode of a new media podcast by Prospect Editor and former Guardian Editor Alan Rusbridger, and former Editor of the Financial Times Lionel Barber. As the podcast will specialise on the ethics and impact of the media industry, their guests include former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who claims that Murdoch has done “more to damage American democracy than any other individual alive today” and Michael Wolff, who has a new book on the Murdoch Empire.
