Tortoise have been becoming a trusted name for their thoughtful and in-depth podcast investigations, which no doubt will be amplified following their purchase of The Observer newspaper earlier this year.

Their latest series, hosted by Chloe Hadjimatheou, looks at Gareth and the abuse of a position of trust he received from a teacher when he was a pupil 35 years ago. After pressing charges years later, the people who he considered to be witnesses denied knowing about the relationship and the teacher denied sexual contact too.

“Why are people so reluctant to talk? And why was this teacher allowed to have sex with a child without ever facing any consequences?” asks Hadjimatheou. “Could it have something to do with the fact that the abuser in this case was an attractive woman?” The first two episodes are available to listen now, with early access to the rest of the series available on Tortoise+.
