Inside Murder Trial: A Deadly Affair

What is it like to be in a jury during a high stakes murder trial? It's this premise that is behind this interesting new true crime series by BBC Radio Scotland, which gives you unprecedented access into a murder trial.

86 year old William MacDowell was accused of the murder Renee MacRae and her son Winnie back in 1976. This ten part series takes you inside the courtroom across each day of his trial, with 21 microphones capturing all the key exchanges and the journalist Jane MacSorley and Thomas KC unpacking the strategies of both the defence and prosecution.

The series is an insightful exploration of how criminal trials work and the challenges of prosecution in a case when many of the witnesses are no longer with us. It also never loses sight of the victims and how the lack of closure of this unsolved case over decades was devastating for the victim’s family.
