Do I Sound Like I Care? with Louise Lynch

Do I Sound Like I Care? with Louise Lynch - A new podcast shining a light on unpaid family carers and connecting those currently looking after a loved one. It’s presented by the Emmy Award-Winning documentary maker Louise Lynch, who is a full time carer for her 84 year Mum.

Her first guest is Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, who is caring for his Dad with Alzheimers. They discuss the complexity of the care system, how different institutions don’t speak to each other and how patients are often rushed through to the emergency services unnecessarily, because they are not given enough time to settle if difficulties arise whilst at home.

“The NHS needs people who can be supported within their homes to stay within their homes,” says Burnham. “That’s better for everybody. Staff who are trained properly, paid properly with secure employment are able to do that first line of defence. Instead, it is the opposite: zero hours contracts and poverty pay.”
