The best podcasts tracking movie awards season

It's been a controversy-filled run up

The BAFTA Film Awards take place today Sunday 16th Feb, one of the last big award ceremonies before the all important Oscars next month. So before this week’s recommendations, let’s have a quick look at podcasts that are tracking all of the Oscars runners and riders.

Kermode and Mayo’s Take have an award special on the major nominees, featuring Mark Kermode’s analysis on films such as The Brutalist, Nosferatu and Emilia Pérez, alongside excerpts from Simon Mayo’s interviews with some of the nominees recorded over the last year.

Helen O’Hara, James Dyer and Chris Hewitt in The Empire Film Podcast have been interviewing many nominees and previous Oscar winners, including Michelle Yeoh and Adrian Brody. Meanwhile Frank Film Club with Maisie Williams (along with producer Lowri Roberts and casting director Hannah Marie Williams) continue their annual tradition of profiling and interviewing the nominees for the Best British Short Film Category. Specifically, the podcast delves deep in asking them about their journey into filmmaking.

Elsewhere, Pulp Kitchen: A Film Podcast , a podcast fronted by George Pundek and James Briefel, have decided to rank all of the Oscar Best Picture nominees this year.

They have also opened their most recent episode with a theory that Harris Dickinson will be cast as the next James Bond, because he’s apparently got no new roles coming up on his horizon.
