Veteran broadcaster and leader of arts and culture, Sir John Tusa has launched a new podcast that celebrates the lives and perspectives of people in their nineties. The Best Is Yet To Come brings together remarkable people for thoughtful conversations about the experiences that shaped them and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
Sir John himself has lived an extraordinary life. Over the course of his career he has been a presenter of Newsnight, Head of the BBC World Service and Managing Director of London’s Barbican Centre, as well as growing up during World War Two. The series debuted with Sir John recounting his life stories in an interview with The Rest is Politics host and his very own godson, Rory Stewart.
Now, as he turns 90, Tusa is turning his attention to the stories of others who have reached the same milestone. In each episode, he sits down with guests in their nineties to reflect on their lives and careers. The lineup so far has included Phillip Graham, author and Professor of Child Psychiatry and Lord Richard Layard, co-director of the Community Wellbeing programme and co-editor of the World Happiness Report.
Conversations move between personal memories, professional achievements and broader reflections on society, giving listeners the opportunity to hear directly from people who have witnessed (and even influenced) major moments in modern history. Throughout, Sir John reflects on the current world and reminds us that the best is yet to come.
