In a rare creative project, The Wandsworth Way brings together craft and local voices from across the borough. The final episode is airing in two weeks time on Riverside Radio, marking the end of a year-long community storytelling project that has produced a forty-episode series.
The audio drama is considered very ambitious, bringing together thirty-one writers and eighty-four community actors, most with no previous experience and only twelve weeks to produce the first episode.
The narrative follows the life and culture of the borough of Wandsworth in South West London, told through the voices of the people who live there. It blends serial drama, social history and community storytelling. Its sound design incorporates field recordings from across Wandsworth, including markets, parks, public transport and riverside locations, contributing to a strong sense of place.
As it comes to an end, Chief Writer, James Fritz reflects: “I am incredibly proud to have played a small part in such an ambitious, wide‑reaching, good‑hearted project, and to have worked with so many brilliant writers across the year. Thirty‑one brand new writing credits is, frankly, an astonishing achievement in a time when new opportunities are thin on the ground.”
