Cheerful Earful podcast festival announces 2024 line up

And there’s some seriously funny shows on offer

5:01 PM GMT+1 on June 13, 2024

Comedy podcast festival Cheerful Earful has announced its lineup for 2024.

What’s not to like about a podcast event which is just for laughs? That’s right; nothing. So good news then that the Cheerful Earful is returning for its third successive year with new names on the bill alongside some familiar faces.

This year’s programme spans nine days from October 12th to 20th with the first twelve acts announced today. And it happens to be sponsored by this very publication - Podcast Rex.

    Headline shows

Miranda Sawyer and  Alex Von Tunzelmann’s Papercuts tops the bill alongside Let’s Be Having You and Trusty Hogs (who also performed in 2022 and 2023).

Papercuts is a hilarious daily show which invites the country’s best commentators and comedians to come into the studio to look at (and crucially talk about) “the madness, the strangeness, the obsessions, and – occasionally – the brilliance of our national press”

Let’s Be Having You is the football podcast which revisits soccer stories of the 00s and examines them from every which angle. Chris Scull and Alex Brooker (of The Last Leg, Soccer Aid and Masked Singer fame) join sports producer Nick Lustig for every episode.

Trusty Hogs hosted by Catherine Bohart & Helen Bauer has been offering terrible agony aunt advice for over 100 episodes. Trusty Hogs was long listed for a Channel 4 National Comedy Award for Best Podcast in 2023 for very good reason.

The impressive range of shows matches the scope of the festival, which promises to build “a podcast festival that showcases funny shows, whether they're listened to by legions of fans or a handful of loyal listeners.” The event is truly an inclusive and encouraging laugh-a-second joyfest.

Ghastly Women with Esther Manito and Lily Phillips, Neurodivergent Moments with Abigoliah Schamaun and Joe Wells, and My Mate Bought a Toaster with Tom Price are all on the bill…

…alongside Eejits of The World, Dial a Dilemma and Pappy’s Flatshare.

Other shows include: They Way They Were, Did You Just Say That?, Family Jewels, Cheap Show and Lexx Education

Tickets for the show can be found here - we hope to see you there!
