This year's best seasonal scaries

OoOOooOooOoooOooOOooOOOooOoooOooOoooooooOooOooOooo..

Apologies for the unsettling start to the article, but I needed to get the mood just right for a roundup of Halloween podcasts.

Up In Smoke sounds like a new enticing true crime series, all about a devastating house fire resulting in a missing person and a possible wrongful conviction. It is actually a fictional drama, starring Adam Buxton and Mei Mac, written and directed by Cambria Bailey-Jones and Guy Larsen. Trust me though, the fact that it is fictional doesn’t make it sound any less unsettling. The first two episodes are available to listen to now.

Danny Robins has launched Uncanny Halloween, daily ‘bite-size tales of terror’ between now and the 31st October. Each episode is a ghost story sent in from listeners, lasting a couple of minutes each. If you haven’t already, make sure that you listen to Uncanny USA, released earlier in the year, which looked at whether supernatural events that took place over the pond in the US are actually based in reality.

After Dark: Myths, Misdeeds and the Paranormal features historians Maddy Pelling and Anthony Delaney retelling stories of executions, terrible crimes and notable serial killers. In their latest episode, currently available to subscribers, they are joined by Dan Snow to look at the origin of Halloween, which is in Ireland.

The Gossip Gays have launched their own murder mystery series called ‘Who Killed Danny Beard?’ and tomorrow (Monday 28th October) there’s a new investigative true crime series called Inside McKamey Manor, which looks at a haunted house in the United States that has faced calls by participants and locals to be shut down.
