The Hackney & Newham History Social Club

The Hackney & Newham History Social Club - First, a disclaimer: I promise that this is not a conflict of interest. I live in Newham and I regularly work in Hackney, and this podcast is about the people who live and work in Newham and Hackney!

Yet, you don’t need to be a resident to enjoy this podcast. This brilliant series by the actor and broadcaster Sue Elliott-Nicholls weaves together human interest stories set in two vastly changing boroughs, touching on issues such gentrification and the rising cost of living, whilst celebrating the lives and communities that have been here for decades. It captures the essence and energy of East London, whilst honing in on the services that connect us all, such as eateries and convenience stores.

Whether you are a resident of the area or not, it will make you think about the stories that are in your local area, and the people you pass everyday but never get to really know. It is brilliantly done, and sets the bar for other local podcasts.
