The comedian Joanne McNally fronted a surreal true crime BBC Sounds series earlier this year looking at whether, at the peak of her career, the singer Avril Lavigne died and was replaced by a body double. The series playfully made fun of the investigative podcast genre whilst also exploring how on earth these conspiracy theories are formed in the first place.
Well now there’s a second series with an equally surreal premise. It looks at the bizarre and widely circulated rumour that the children’s electronic Furby toys were actually secretly recording us. The show unpacks why while Furbys don’t record us (probably), many of the devices we use on a daily basis actually do.
