Homing In – A podcast that celebrates the home and how it reflects who we are. In each episode, the author Matt Gibberd interviews a well known name about the house they grew up in, the house they live in now and the home that they hope to live in the future. Gibberd asks great questions and the guests quickly onside, which provides revealing answers. In some cases, the interviews are recorded in the guest’s own home, which provides something a bit more intimate than the typical celebrity interview.
There’s a great selection of guests too: Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs, River Cafe owner Ruth Rogers and the entrepreneur Cath Kidston. His most recent episode is with the food journalist Nigel Slater, who talks about his upbringing, which has been captured in his celebrated memoir Toast.
“Strangely, I don't think I ever felt alone,” Slater said. “I'm rather sad that the word ‘alone’ is mixed up with ‘lonely’ because I've never felt lonely. Solitude? Absolutely. Even as a kid, I liked solitude.
“Walking in the woods, going for walks with the dog, very happy, reading a book on my own in the garden. Just as happy then, actually, as I am now.”
