When life gives you lemons” is the theme of this new podcast by the comedian and writer Mark O’Sullivan. The series explores how people how people have been able to find or make something positive out of negative life experiences, inspired by O’Sullivan’s own experiences of making the award-winning Channel 4 show My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom.

“Not long after we finished making it, I realised that I felt different. I felt lighter,” O’Sullivan said. “When I thought about what had happened to me, when I thought about the abuse, when I thought about the abuser, they didn't quite have the power over me that they'd held for decades. And I thought, this is really interesting. What is going on here? How can this be?”

In this new series, he speaks to people who have experienced a difficult moment and how they found solace, starting with a candid and heartfelt conversation with the BBC Radio 5 Live broadcaster Nicky Campbell.

As O’Sullivan points out at the start of the series, the lemonade doesn’t have to be something overly creative or overly ambitious. It could be getting fit, doing that course, or doing something that you didn’t expect you would ever do. “It's all making, it's all creating, it's all transforming the negative stuff we experience into something positive.”
