53 Minutes – Ali Dia: Football’s Biggest Mystery

53 Minutes - Ali Dia: Football’s Biggest Mystery - Josh Widdicombe and Dara Ó Briain have a new series unpacking an infamous footballing incident from 25 years ago. How did a former unknown football player called Ali Dia end up playing for Southampton match back in 1996?

Appearing on the pitch just 53 minutes, hence the title of the podcast, Ali Dia’s debut was so bad it was described as being "like Bambi on ice.” He also frequently tops lists as being the worst premier league player of all time. But was his appearance a cock-up, a hoax or just good fortune for him? It’s what Josh and Dara try to find out, with a storytelling style not too dissimilar to the Wondery storybook style of podcasts that are all the rage at the moment. There’s six episodes in all, with two episodes available now.
