BBC World Service Launches More Than The Score, A Daily Podcast on the Stories Behind Sport

The new weekday show goes beyond results and scorelines, with debates, interviews, and untold stories from across global sport.

BBC World Service has launched More Than The Score, a new daily podcast offering a fresh take on sport worldwide. The show will run every weekday, tackling the biggest stories in athletics, football, tennis, ice hockey, and more — but with a focus on what happens beyond the scoreboard.

Hosted by a rotating team of BBC Sport presenters — including John Bennett, Katie Smith, Maz Farookhi, Mani Djazmi, Lee James, Ed Harry, and Ade Adedoyin — the podcast promises interviews, debates, and personal stories from athletes and commentators across the globe.

The first episode looks at pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, who recently broke the world record for the 13th time. Hosts Ed Harry and Ade Adedoyin are joined by U.S. athletics commentator Larry Elder to ask: how much do world records matter, and are some untouchable?

Future episodes will cover stories such as former footballer Jamie Lawrence’s journey “from prison to the Premier League,” and an exploration of Mohamed Salah’s rise and staying power at the top level of the game.

Colin Patterson, Editor of BBC World Service Sport, described the podcast as “a mix of untold stories, interesting debate and the best content BBC Sport has to offer.”

Episodes of More Than The Score are available every weekday on BBC Sounds and other podcast platforms.
