Victoria Derbyshire is one of the most skilful interviewers in the UK. Usually interviewing politicians and pundits on BBC Two’s Newsnight, she now has a new podcast chatting to people with extraordinary stories.
It starts with a chat with Luke Dyson, one of the UK’s most prolific fighters, who has competed in hundreds of MMA and boxing bouts, sometimes up to five fights in a weekend. Under careful and sensitive questioning from Derbyshire, Dyson opens up about his difficult childhood and why fighting has been a solace for him.
“There's a lot of anger inside me. I have to channel that somehow,” Dyson says. “I have to get these things out of me.”
