Platforms plastered with end of year highlights

What's being picked as the best shows of the year?

As everyone is sharing their Spotify Wrapped on their Instagram Stories (woe to be an Apple Music subscriber – which is me) let’s have a quick look at some of the music platform’s picks and most shared podcasts this year.

Spotify have unveiled their Top Celebrity Interviews of 2024, including Fearne Cotton on Davina McCall’s Begin Again, Kate Moss on Bella Freud’s Fashion Neurosis and singer Billie Eilish on Miss Me? with Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver.

They also unveiled their Top True Crime Podcasts of 2024. It includes Wondery’s The Price of Paradise, which looks at an island paradise that ended up becoming a hellish ordeal, which the series narrated by Alice Levine. There’s also Dangerous Memories by Tortoise, about a therapist who created a wedge between people and their families.

Meanwhile, Apple Podcasts released its list of the most listened to podcast episodes of the year. At the top, it’s The Rest is Politics unpacking the General Election the morning after. Not far behind is Diary of A CEO’s two hour interview with Simon Cowell. Also on the list is The Rest is Entertainment unpacking that Philip Schofield Channel 5 documentary (I remember co-host Marina Hyde referring the documentary as a “picnic of narcissism.”)

The Great British Podcasts newsletter will also be releasing special editions over the festive break with my Favourite Podcasts of the 2024. Subscribers can look out for it in your inboxes on the 22nd and 29th December or it will be right here on the Podcast Rex website.
