Goalhanger Announces Brand New Podcast… The Book Club

Hosted by Dominic Sandbrook and Tabitha Syrett

Launching on 17th February, Goalhanger has announced its latest podcast, The Book Club. Hosted by historian and author Dominic Sandbrook and his producer on The Rest Is History, Tabitha Syrett, this new podcast offers a weekly deep dive into the books that shaped the world.

Having begun as members-only episodes within The Rest Is History, covering modern classics such as In Cold Blood, L’Étranger and The Hobbit, the series is now launching as a standalone show.

Each episode will focus on a single book, unpacking its ideas, themes and historical context. The pair will explore the author behind the work and why it still resonates today. The first episode examines Emily Brontë’s classic Wuthering Heights, taking a look into the author’s life and discussing why the novel caused such controversy on publication. They also compare it to Emerald Fennell’s Hollywood adaptation which is to be released on Valentine’s Day this year.

Sandbrook shares, “I’m so thrilled to be unveiling this new show. I’ve loved books for as long as I can remember, and Tabitha and I have spent many happy hours debating our favourites”. Co-host Syrett adds, “I hope the show captures the enthusiasm for literature I’ve carried from childhood into adulthood. From the outset, I wanted The Book Club to move beyond traditional literary criticism - making books feel accessible, engaging, and rooted in the historical worlds that shaped them and their authors.”

Upcoming episodes will feature Never Let Me Go, The Great Gatsby, The Secret History, Frankenstein, Hamnet, 1984, East of Eden, Normal People and Northern Lights.
