Apple celebrates two decades of podcasting by showcasing UK creators

It's been a big week for the platform

It’s nearly 20 years since Apple first brought podcasts to their platforms by introducing the format to iTunes.

These days, podcasts have become so ubiquitous (while the iPod has gone in the other direction) that many listeners may not even realise an Apple device is to thank for the very name we use to refer to the shows we love.

It’s fair to say they’re celebrating in style. The famous chimneys of the company’s UK home, Battersea Power Station, were lit up in Apple Podcasts purple this week, with the editorial team also announcing five new additions to the Creators We Love program.

These include some of the biggest names in British podcasting. Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy, joint hosts of The Therapy Crouch and each with solo ventures in That Peter Crouch Podcast and Exhibit A, make the list alongside Jessie and Lennie Ware (Table Manners), Hannah Maguire and Suruthi Bala (RedHanded), Mo Gilligan (Beginning, Middle and End), and Dr Rangan Catterjee (Feel Better Live More).

Each set of creators also gets to use their spot to recommend some of their favourite shows, with Alan Carr’s Life’s a Beach, Betwixt the Sheets, Parenting Hell, Have You Heard George’s Podcast and The Rich Roll Podcast all getting a look in.
