Sliced Bread is a BBC Sounds series looking at the innovations that have shaped our lives, from cough medicines to dehumidifiers (hence the name Sliced Bread.) Now its spin-off series Toast has returned, which looks at why certain products or services ended up quickly falling out of favour (hence the name Toast!)

The first episode looks at the BlackBerry phone, looking at how it went from 85 million subscribers to its demise in less than ten years. It wasn’t just the release of the iPhone, it was the decision to release the BlackBerry Storm, their first smartphone without a physical keyboard, deemed to be one of the worst smartphone disasters of all.

Fun fact: BlackBerry was originally only going to be called Blade, until they realised it was the name of an existing porn site. You can listen to each episode wherever you get your podcast, but you get an episode a week earlier if you listen to episodes a week earlier on BBC Sounds.
