Many investigative podcasts are grizzly and intrusive deep dives into some unsolved crimes. Here Josh Widdicombe has launched a four-part series on the rise and fall of Mr Blobby, the pink foam character who crashed into television studios mortifying most young viewers (including me.) He unpacks his rise and fall, from how the character was created by a writer on Noel’s House Party, to the disaster and subsequent closure of the Mr Blobby theme park Blobby Land.
Widdicombe’s series works so well because it is rich in ‘90s television nostalgia, along with great reaction and reflections with the comedian Tom Craine. I also love how immersive this series is. Other podcasts may have felt obliged to have only given this topic a single breezy episode. Here, there’s four parts. On Mr Blobby! Sensational!
