Thanks to Counter Terrorism Policing.
Counter Terrorism Policing, the organisation responsible for investigating and tacking potential terrorism threats in the UK, has launched a podcast. The show, Inside Counter Terrorism Policing, naturally comes with a lot of challenges. For security reasons, the majority of those working at the organisation usually cannot talk about their work in detail, meaning this podcast represents the first time those working on the frontline are speaking about their work publicly.
The show takes listeners behind the scenes to reveal the untold stories of working in counter terrorism. While names have been changed to protect contributors identities, the voices are real and listeners are hearing about remarkable experiences first hand from those doing some of the country's least well understood jobs.
The series focuses on women working in counter terror and features women working across numerous different roles. Series guests include "Emma", a counter terrorism human source handler; "Jo", who specialises in identifying emerging trends in extreme right-wing terrorism; and "Cassandra", a senior forensics expert.
Speaking about their professional journeys and the reasons they got into working in policing, they openly discuss the realities of the job:
“I’m having to deal with some of the worst people in society and some people that are planning on doing potentially some really horrific things.”
The highest stakes:
"That decision about when to arrest them – a day too soon, a day too late – it can be down to the wire.”
And the best bits of the job:
“It’s absolutely fascinating… it’s made me a better person.”
The complete first series Inside Counter Terrorism Policing is available now.
