Regarded as one of the best interviewers in the country, it was a bit of a shock when Mishal Husain announced that she was leaving Radio 4’s Today programme at the end of the last year.

Since her departure, she has joined the news company Bloomberg and with that comes a new podcast, which debuted this week, where she interviews individuals who shape the world we are in today, be that people you like or loathe. “I hope that it's also going to be a place with head, heart and soul, where in the midst of a disrupted, even a chaotic world, you'll find something to take away that's of value,” she said. “That's what I'm aiming to do week after week.”

These longform interviews work perfectly for her, and it is a shame that there wasn’t something like this for her on the BBC. She has already secured some big names in this series too, from Elon Musk to Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Succession creator Jesse Armstrong. The first episode is with Mark Carney, the current Prime Minister of Canada, who talked about his relationship with the leader of his neighbour, President Trump.
