    Fiona Sturges in the FT

    • The True Story of the Fake Zombies - “This story of an epic music-industry scam should be ideal podcast fodder, but the makers of The True Story of The Fake Zombies have bungled it. The series is the expansion of an article on BuzzFeed, written in 2016 by the journalist Daniel Ralston (who also fronts the podcast). It is a terrific read and, in hindsight, an article was all that was required.

    Miranda Sawyer in the Observer

    • Extreme: Muscle Men  - “A fun, campy listen that moves from a sweaty 1980s California gym to some darker areas.”

    James Marriott in the Times

    • The Arc of Love - “Perhaps if you know that your therapy is being broadcast (albeit anonymously), you feel compelled to put on a show of thoughtful acceptance. Or perhaps it’s just that she’s so weirdly, unerringly, terrifyingly right about everyone.”

Sarah Ditum in the Sunday Times

    • Extreme: Muscle Men - “Flashes back to the 1980s gym boom — and the shady world of steroid trading that grew alongside it.”
    • In the Dark - “The details are harrowing; the pace is glacial. Americans do love some girth in their reporting.”

The Guardian’s Hear Here column recommends

    • Perfect Day With Jessica Knappett - “Comedian Jessica Knappett invites famous friends to talk through their daily routine.”
    • Late to the Party - “Katherine Ryan is always good value in interviews and she is comedian Grace Campbell’s first guest on her podcast about parties.”
    • Under the Cover - “The fashion shows, photoshoots and videos of the 90s are the stuff of legend.”
    • The Reggie Yates Podcast - “One minute they’re feeling the pressure of a best man’s speech, the next they’re discussing what their prison personas would be.”
    • Quite a Good Sport - “Rowing is their first sport and they chat to Team GB’s modest Imogen Grant and Eve Stewart, before adding a healthy sprinkling of innuendo and even trying their luck on the water.”

    In the Guardian’s Guide newsletter

    • The Rewatchables - “It’s finally happened: The Ringer’s beloved, long-running movie reminiscence-a-thon has harpooned its white whale: Pulp Fiction.”

    Highlights from the Radio Times

    • The Apartheid Killer  - “A remorseless Van Schoor died from sepsis days after this BBC series was released.”
    • Desert Oracle - “A Tom Waits voice in the tone of Mark Twain with the imagery of Nick Cave.”
    • Crash Course Pods: The Universe - “Green sounds suitably in awe while Mack keeps the scientific stuff accessible.”

    Heat’s Top of the Pods

Scott Bryan in Great British Podcasts

    • Rory Stewart: The Long History Of... - "This new six part BBC series hosted by Rory Stewart, from The Rest is Politics and Leading, argues that ignorance is not actually a bad thing.”
    • The Studies Show - “There are many podcasts that unpack the latest in scientific developments and discoveries, but not so many that unpack the latest controversies.”
    • The Green Room: Bigger Questions - “A podcast that looks at the power of being a winner and the impact that can have on your life.”
    • Sing it Pink - “A well crafted and engaging documentary looking at the forty year history of The Pink Singers, the oldest LGBTQ+ choir in Europe, who are based in London.”
