Here’s a sign that we’re all getting older. BBC Radio 6 Music have now released a new series looking at the rise and fall of a certain type of indie music right back in the mid-noughties. Skinny jeans, constant guitars and hundreds of bands beginning with the word “The” (The Kooks, The Long Blondes, The Strokes, The Libertines there are literally hundreds.)
In this new eight-part series singer Kate Nash (behind the iconic noughties lyrics “You said I must eat so many lemons, cos I am so bitter I said ‘I'd rather be with your friends, mate cos they are much fittaaaaa’) looks at it this music’s meteoric rise and fall, unpacking dark side, and its legacy. Surprisingly, there lacks a name for this type of music, hence why the BBC has christened it Indie Sleaze.
