The National Trust has a new history podcast that tries its hardest not to be stale, looking at interesting stories from our shared history. Want an example? Well, in its most recent episode, historians James Grasby and Helen Antrobus look at how poo plagued London during the Victorian era.

“You could even catch salmon in the Thames, but from 1815 onwards, obviously, the number of fish started to drop.” says contributor Laura French from the Crossness Engines Trust. “The very last salmon was caught in the Thames in 1833, and certainly by the 1840s, 1850s, the fishing business in London completely collapsed.”
